About a year ago, Plymouth Housing opened Seattle’s first affordable housing highrise building. The first 5 stories, Blake House, accommodates 112 senior residents who live in studios provided by Plymouth Housing. Floors 6-17 are called The Rise, providing 250 affordable units for individuals and families below 50-60% of area median income (AMI). Together, this building is a testament to Seattle’s commitment to provide safe and affordable housing for people in our community.
On Thanksgiving, my family and one of my colleagues, volunteered at Blake House to serve a Thanksgiving feast. It was a great time. The staff at Plymouth Housing are so organized and welcoming. They were grateful and appreciative and most importantly, the residents were well fed and enjoyed themselves. It was a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving, by giving back to the community in a small way. Because of organizations like Plymouth, Seattle can be a safe place for everyone where people can find support to rebuild their lives. I’m thrilled to be supporting Plymouth as I train for the Marathon Des Sables and to be able to bring awareness to the amazing work they do in the community.
